The subsidy applies to the top-of-the-line Essential, Plus and Elite versions of the PV5 Passenger, which were not eligible for the incentive at the time of launch in June. At the time, Kia said it hoped to clarify the status of the model in due course.
This appears to have now happened, with the ECG applicable to the seven-seater at the time of purchase, reducing the starting price of the base Essential version to £35,495.
The seven-seat PV5 Passenger is offered in the UK with a 71.2 kWh battery, providing a WLTP range of up to 246 miles. It is the latest addition to a growing list of ECG-eligible Kia vehicles. The EV4 and five-seat PV5 Passenger were among the brand’s first models to qualify in December 2025, followed by additional EV3 and EV4 versions in April 2026 and the EV2 Long Range in July this year. Kia UK stated: “Kia is currently one of eleven brands offering fully electric cars with maximum ECG, highlighting the brand’s strong environmental manufacturing credentials needed to qualify for the grant.”
ECG offers grants of £1,500 or £3,750 depending on the eligible vehicle and its band. It effectively offers a price reduction at the point of purchase for buyers of new electric vehicles. The rating depends on government criteria covering areas such as emissions, sustainability and warranty support.
