Tesla is now installing its larger, 16-inch center touchscreen on every Model 3 sold in the United States, Puerto Rico and Mexico, a day after it rolled out the same update in China.
The Model 3 Performance also has a black headliner, 316 miles of range and 528 hp, while the Premium AWD now accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. But there is still no information about the US Model 3 being able to charge the vehicle.
News about the American Model 3
Tesla North America announced the changes to X on Thursday night and the US configurator already shows them:
The 16-inch screen replaces the 15.4-inch unit across the lineup, and that includes the base Model 3 RWD at $36,990. Tesla’s comparison tool now includes a 16-inch touchscreen in the front row for each trim.
It’s the same screen that Tesla added to the Model Y Premium in January, and the one that all Model 3s in China received yesterday.
The rest of the update is about the two dual-engine cars. The Model 3 Performance has a black headliner, its EPA-estimated range ranges from 309 to 316 miles, and Tesla says maximum power has been “improved” to 528 hp. Tesla listed the car with 510 hp when it launched in 2024. Its 0-60 mph time remains unchanged at 2.9 seconds.
The Model 3 Premium AWD takes the biggest leap. It now goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, up from 4.2 seconds, and has a range of 346 miles.
Tesla didn’t say where the extra power and range comes from, or whether any will make it to the cars it’s already delivered.
The base price did not move. The Model 3 still starts at $36,990, with the Premium RWD at $42,490, the Premium AWD at $47,490, and the Performance at $54,990.
What the American Model 3 still doesn’t achieve
The loaded vehicle is the most important. In China, each Model 3 can now generate 2.2 kW of AC power with an adapter. In the US, Tesla limited V2L to the Model Y Premium, Model Y Performance, and Cybertruck in August, and nothing changed for the Model 3 with this update. The Tesla comparison tool does not include any external power features for the car.
The new light gray interior that Tesla launched in China is also not in the US configurator. American buyers still choose between black and black and white, and the black headliner is only on the Performance.
And Canada is not part of this. Tesla’s post only mentions the US, Puerto Rico and Mexico, and the Canadian configurator was still showing the 15.4-inch screen when we checked. That’s strange, because Canada gets its Model 3 from Giga Shanghai, the same factory that makes the cars for the Chinese market that got the 16-inch screen yesterday.
