Iran War: Iran responds to renewed series of US attacks with retaliatory strikes
According to Iranian state media, three people were killed in the south of the country in renewed US attacks on Iran. Eight people were also injured in Hormosgan province. The Iranian state broadcaster Irib reported detonations in the area of Sirik near the Strait of Hormuz and the coastal city of Bandar Abbas.
The US military began new attacks on the city in the evening hours Iran announced. The regional command Centcom wrote in the online service X that the attacks were intended to further weaken Iran’s military capabilities. At around 3:30 a.m. German time, the seventh series of attacks in a row was declared over.
According to Iranian state media, bridges were bombed again in the southern province of Hormuzgan. According to Iranian information, the US military had already attacked bridges and other civilian infrastructure there the night before. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai then wrote on X that the Iranian people were now even more determined to make their enemies “bitterly regret their criminal aggression.”
Denial about burning tankers in the Strait of Hormuz
Iranian state television also reported that night, citing the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, that an American drone had been shot down near the city of Bushehr. In addition, two oil tankers were on fire in the south of the Strait of Hormuz. This information could not be independently verified. The US military later said on X that claims by the Revolutionary Guard that two oil tankers had exploded in the Strait of Hormuz were false.
Iran continues to claim full control of the strait, which is crucial for global trade in oil, gas and fertilizer. After the renewed attacks, shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has almost come to a standstill. According to observers, only a few ships were passing through the strait.
Retaliatory strikes in Kuwait and Jordan
In retaliation for the latest wave of US attacks, the Iranian armed forces said they attacked US military facilities in Kuwait and Jordan during the night. Several ammunition depots, command facilities and communications facilities were targeted in Kuwait, said an army statement carried by Iranian state television. US Army fuel tanks were attacked in Jordan. In Bahrain, sirens also wailed several times during the night to warn the population of attacks, the Interior Ministry of the Gulf state said.
