Internal security: Dobrindt sees a high risk of attack in Germany

According to the Federal Interior Minister, the security situation in Germany has worsened Alexander Dobrindt (CDU) tightened. He therefore feels compelled to “upgrade the abstract threat situation formulated so far to a high threat situation,” said Dobrindt World on Sunday. “This means that the risk of attacks can be expected at any time in Germany.”

Plans to attack Germany are “clearly recognizable,” said Dobrindt. They were directed not only against infrastructure, but also against people or institutions.

Against this background, Dobrindt wants to expand the powers of the intelligence services. “My goal is for us to further develop the intelligence services into real secret services in order to be competitive and capable of partnering with our friendly services abroad,” said the minister.

Reform of the intelligence service

On August 13th, the Federal Cabinet will deal with a comprehensive reform of intelligence law. This should enable the services to intervene independently in certain threat situations and not just limit themselves to collecting and evaluating information. In certain acute situations, this could also mean that constitutional officers enter and search apartments if police forces are not available in time.

The new powers will be monitored by an independent control council, which must approve the corresponding measures in advance. According to Dobrindt, the separation of secret services and police should not be abolished.
