The new electric vehicle charging center at Melbourne Airport includes truck drive-through areas, toilets and free Wi-Fi and is open 24 hours a day. The site is likely to be convenient for commuters, airport pick-ups and drop-offs, ride-share drivers and electric vehicle drivers passing through the city’s northern suburbs. The site is powered entirely by renewable electricity from Melbourne Airport’s two solar farms.
“We are building an integrated mobility network to support all our customers into the future,” said Paul Augé, president of bp Australia. “With electric vehicle sales reaching record levels in Australia, we are proud to offer our customers more choice.”
The cargo center is located on Airport Drive, near Melbourne Airport’s long-term Value Car Park. Chargefox notes that the site further expands the charging options available to Chargefox users, with bp pulse chargers already accessible through the Chargefox app.
Augé said electric vehicle charging was an important part of bp’s mobility and convenience strategy in Australia. “We are building an integrated mobility network to be able to support all our customers in the future, whether they are professional drivers,
to fleet operators, business travelers or the local community.”
BP operates a network of more than 1,400 retail outlets and BP pulse charging stations across the continent. The claim to the title of Australia’s largest freight hub may be short-lived. According tensTesla has unveiled plans for a 37-bay Supercharger site in Albury. This site would take the title if it were actually approved and built. Meanwhile, Melbourne Airport can claim to have the title.
