According to the partners, the collaboration will allow Voltality to aggregate live data from charging networks in a given region and translate it into a consistent and verified data stream. Parkopedia then delivers to OEMs with “auto quality” quality.
The companies say this eliminates the need for automakers to establish individual data partnerships with CPOs in each market, particularly Chinese manufacturers, whom the partnership appears to target in particular. For example, Parkopedia stated in a press release: “Chinese OEMs can avoid the complexities of building local data partnerships from scratch and instead bring a high-quality, proven solution to market.”
In addition, charging point operators will benefit. The partners explain that operators who connect to the Voltality network will gain visibility into automotive systems in all four markets, without needing to upgrade or change their existing infrastructure.
Jaap van den Hoek, global director of partnerships at Parkopedia, commented: “Electric vehicle adoption in Southeast Asia is increasing rapidly, but infrastructure has historically lagged behind. Our partnership with Voltality allows us to provide high-quality, real-time charging data that eliminates this friction. For OEMs looking to capture market share in this vital region, we offer a localized, turnkey solution that ensures their drivers have the confidence to charge anywhere, matching the premium digital experience they offer domestically.”
Parkopedia has already established similar partnerships in other markets. In 2023, it partnered with Plugsurfing to integrate charging into its in-car payment system, allowing drivers to find, initiate and pay for charging through the vehicle interface. This service initially covered more than 500,000 charging points in Europe.
