BYD sales started slow this year, but are gaining steam…or electricity. The company made 456,713 deliveries of passenger vehicles in September. That’s 5.4% more than in August 2026 and 16.2% more than in September 2025.

The better news is that the company’s all-electric vehicle (BEV) sales increased much more than that. BEV sales increased 6.6% month over month and 33.2% year over year. They went from 205,050 in September 2025 to 273,143 in September 2026.

Now, if BEV sales increased more than passenger vehicle sales overall, that means PHEV sales were much worse (because BYD only sells BEVs and PHEVs). The company’s PHEV sales increased 3.6% month over month, but in reality diminished 2.4% year over year. They fell from 188,010 in September 2025 to 183,570 in September 2026.

By the way, for those of you who didn’t do some mental math very quickly, the company’s overall ancillary passenger vehicle sales increased from 393,060 in September 2025 to 456,713 in September 2026. That’s more than 63,000 additional sales.

Looking at the bigger picture, the good news is that the company is getting closer to full-year growth, and BEVs are already there. Passenger vehicle sales fell just 4.4%, from 3,218,862 in the first three quarters of 2025 to 3,078,544 in the first three quarters of 2026. All-electric vehicles rose 1.5%, from 1,605,903 in 2025 to 1,629,957 in 2026. (Yes, that means sales of PHEVs have decreased significantly: 10.2%, from 1,612,959 in 2025 to 1,448,587 in 2026).
