BMW’s new electric SUV has just received the M treatment. The new BMW iX3 M60 “raises the stakes”, with a combined output of 603 hp and many M upgrades as standard.

BMW gives the iX3 the M treatment with the M60 xDrive

After introducing the new iX4, including an M60 xDrive variant, BMW this week unveiled another high-performance electric vehicle.

The iX3 M60 xDrive moves up a notch as the most performance-focused variant in the range. Its dual-motor powertrain with all-wheel drive (AWD) offers a combined output of 603 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque, which BMW says allows it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds.

That’s almost a second faster than the standard iX3 50 xDrive. The standard iX3 offers a combined 463 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque with a 0-62 mph time of 4.7 seconds.

BMW said the additional power comes from a new Gen6 EESM (electronically controlled synchronous motor) at the rear axle, a newly developed stator and a more powerful inverter. It also has a longer gear ratio that increases the vehicle’s top speed to 149 mph, up from 130 mph for the standard model.

Like the 50 xDrive, the new iX3 M60 uses BMW’s Gen6 eDrive, a 112.2 kWh battery and an 800V architecture.

BMW hasn’t revealed the range yet, but it will likely be a little short of the iX3 50’s EPA-estimated 434 miles.

The new M60 variant is distinguished by exclusive M design elements inspired by racing cars of the past, such as the BMW M Hybrid V8.

It features progressive lighting elements on either side of BMW’s redesigned kidney grille. Each light has three elements inspired by BMW’s iconic M stripes, plus there is also an M badge integrated into the light signature.

The range-topping iX3 will come standard with 21″ M alloy wheels, but buyers can upgrade to the new optional 22″ M aero wheels.

Inside, the iX3 M60 comes with “extensive standard equipment,” BMW said. The configuration includes a 17″ central touchscreen, 43″ BMW panoramic vision and an M sports steering wheel as standard, along with the optional 3D Head-Up Display.

Although it’s the same infotainment screen, the M60 features an M-specific display with unique colors, graphics and typography compared to the standard iX3.

The new M Sport steering wheel features tech-shy controls and a distinctive red marker at the 12 o’clock position.

It also includes dedicated physical buttons to activate M-specific modes such as M Sport and M Sport Plus. For an additional cost, buyers can upgrade to M Sport seats with lumbar support, adjustable thigh support and a massage function.

The new iX3 M60 also comes standard with a premium 13-speaker Harman Kardon Hi-Fi sound system with Dolby Atmos.

As a top-of-the-range version, the M60 includes adaptive M suspension as standard and electronically controlled dampers.

It also has an electronically controlled M Sport differential on the rear axle to improve handling and cornering in slippery conditions.

And that’s not all. In addition to model-specific spring and damper tuning, BMW added anti-roll bars to the front axle to improve steering.

The new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive features SAE Level 2 safety and driver assistance features with BMW Symbiotic Drive. The optional Highway Assistant enables “hands-free, attentive” driving on highways at up to 85 mph.

BMW will open orders for the new iX3 M60 xDrive at the end of January 2027. We’ll know pricing closer to when it goes on sale, but given that the standard 50 xDrive starts at $61,500, the high-performance variant will be positioned above that.
