BMW-iX5-spotted-ahead-of-US-launch-with-new-Double-X.jpeg

You can’t miss BMW’s new “Double-X” lights, debuting on the all-electric iX5 and X5. The new iX5 was spotted testing ahead of its upcoming US launch, giving us a look at the new lighting signature in real life.

When will BMW launch the iX5?

After BMW opened orders for the new iX5 in Europe this week, those in the US will soon get their chance.

For its fifth generation, the new BMW X5 is available in petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, hydrogen and, for the first time, a fully electric version.

The 2027 iX5 60 xDrive uses BMW’s sixth-generation (Gen6) eDrive system and 800V architecture, like the new iX3 and i3, to deliver impressive range and charging speeds.

In Europe, it uses a massive 141 kWh battery, BMW’s largest EV battery to date, providing a WLTP range of up to 525 miles (750 km).

The electric SUV will use a slightly larger 144 kWh battery in the United States. While EPA figures have not yet been finalized, BMW estimates that the 2027 iX5 will offer up to 435 miles of EPA range.

With DC fast charging up to 460 kW, the IX5’s battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 23 minutes. It also supports two-way charging, so you can use it as a mobile power bank for external electronic devices like camping gear or an electric bike.

The 2027 BMW iX5 60 xDrive has a dual-motor, all-wheel drive powertrain, delivering a combined 578 hp (425 kW) and 593 lb-ft of torque, which BMW says allows it to go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.

All new BMW X5 models adopt its Neue Klasse design, but maintain a style closer to that of a traditional SUV.

The new BMW Kidney Iconic Glow is in the center, but the X5 and iX5 feature a new unique light signature.

BMW’s new “Double-X” lights combine dipped beams, daytime running lights, position lights and turn signals into a single unit. Since the new model will go on sale in the US in early 2027, KindelAuto captured a pre-production test of the 2027 BMW iX5 in public.

The Double-X headlights are hard to miss. While LED headlights are standard, BMW said you can disable the Double-X icons for simpler diagonal stripes.

The new iX5 is the first all-electric vehicle produced in the United States. BMW will begin production at its Spartanburg plant at the end of the year.

In Germany, the iX5 60 xDrive is on sale starting at 102,800 euros ($115,000). BMW will launch the 2027 iX5 60 xDrive in early 2027, starting at $79,800. That doesn’t include the $1,450 destination fee.
