According to Believ, the company plans to retain some existing equipment while replacing fast chargers to improve reliability and align the network with current charging regulations. The acquisition covers “standard plus” AC chargers from 7 to 22 kW and fast charging units with powers of 50 kW or more. Believ will retain existing standard plus equipment, including installed cabling and infrastructure, while upgrading fast charging locations. Replacement equipment is expected to be ready by the end of November 2026.
The operator said the transition will improve network reliability while making more efficient use of public space. Locations include Elm Grove, London Road Car Park and King Alfred Car Park. Believ added that public charging is particularly important in Brighton & Hove, as 54 per cent of residents do not have access to off-street parking.
Guy Bartlett, chief executive of Believ, said: “With more than half of households without access to off-street parking, public charging is vital to the region’s transition to electric vehicles and delivering clean air for everyone. By retaining equipment where possible, improving fast charging locations and working closely with local authorities, we are taking a hands-on approach to delivering a reliable network for Brighton.”
The acquisition of the Blink chargers is separate from a broader plan under which Believ is working with the city council to install a further 210 fast and ultra-fast charging points across the city. Deployment is already underway with completion scheduled for late 2028. The council selected Believ for the project in June 2025, and original plans contained provisions for up to 208 units, a number that has now been increased.
Overall, the two developments will significantly increase Believ’s presence in the city by combining the acquisition of existing infrastructure with a substantial deployment of new high-power chargers.
