This April, CleanTechnica hosted our first major event, the Hawaii Sustainability Expo & Electric Home Show. It attracted about 1,300 attendees, ~80 green vendors, and a dozen elected representatives. The event featured 7 electric vehicles for test drive, 20 more electric vehicles for the electric vehicle display, an e-bike track, a non-toxic children’s room, a solar-powered bounce house, a farm-to-show food court, a wellness track and a wide range of speakers and workshops. Bill McKibben starred at the event with a moving speech.
This is a very scalable event that can occur anywhere.
There’s nothing particularly unique about Hawaii that isn’t present elsewhere: people want more organic and eco-friendly options, people want to have fun testing electric vehicles, people like electric bikes, kids love a good bounce house, everyone loves interesting, local food, and most want to save money and increase their resilience. So if you or someone you know in your community would be a good candidate and interested in hosting your own Expo, CleanTechnica is here to help. This video explains it: what we expect from you and what we can do to help you.
What we can do to support, in summary, is the following:
- Provide a plan.
- Offer strategic guidance, so you don’t make all the mistakes we made.
- Be a hub, so that each organizer learns from each other and, as a whole, the ecosystem grows, has more impact, makes more money and wastes less time and resources.
- Make sales: We have direct pipelines to GEs, Sunruns, Teslas, Rivians and more, and we can help get you to local events. We already have participation from Rinnai, Tesla, Sunrun, Bluetti and many more global companies, and we have put the event on the radar of hundreds of others.
At the local level, the people/company/organization organizing the event must:
- do customer discovery with key stakeholders in the region
- Perform local sales, logistics and marketing of the event.
- create the speaker lineup.
