EVgo has opened its first Supercharger station and it’s in the parking lot of a Chicago supermarket. The site has 12 fast charging stations with NACS and CCS plugs, and is the first of hundreds of Tesla Supercharger stations that EVgo plans to add across the United States.
The 325 kW “EVgo Superchargers” are at Riverside Square and River’s Edge, at 3145 S Ashland Avenue. EVgo’s August announcement cited up to 500 kW for the Supercharger launch.
The Chicago location features Magic Dock technology, meaning both NACS and CCS vehicles can be charged without an adapter. Drivers of compatible non-Tesla electric vehicles can log in through the Tesla app. If you drive a Tesla, the charging station appears in the car’s navigation and Trip Planner. Other EVgo fast chargers with NACS plugs have appeared in Tesla navigation since early September if you activate third-party charging.
“By serving NACS drivers from both Tesla and other manufacturers, we are doubling EVgo’s addressable market and continuing to reach EV drivers where they are and where they want to charge,” said Badar Khan, CEO of EVgo.
EVgo owns and brands the Superchargers, and Tesla manages and maintains them. The first sites will be in Regency Centers shopping plazas with grocery stores.
EVgo is also adding NACS plugs to its regular fast-charging network, a rollout that began in 2025. The company aims to have 500 of those spots in the U.S. by the end of 2026, with the Supercharger spots accounted for separately. Over the next two years, it plans to install at least one NACS socket at every EVgo site built in 2023 or later.
