For your general AI questions, Gemini 4 Argon is rolling out today to the Gemini app. However, it will only be available to those with AI Pro ($20/month) and AI Ultra (starting at $99/month) plans. This is not a surprise, as Google also recently restricted access to Flash models for free users, leaving them only with Flash-Lite.
That’s not all: there are additional restrictions on Argon for encryption-focused products. In Antigravity and AI Studio, the new model will only be available to those with AI Ultra plans. Code generation has become even more important on the frontier of AI development since the last release of Google’s Pro model, but it can consume many compute cycles.
You can generate code with Argon in the Canvas mode of the Gemini app even if you’re a Pro subscriber, but the multi-threaded agent workflows in Antigravity are probably too expensive. If you need something more capable than the Flash models, Google says it will stick with the Gemini 3.1 Pro for now. Google has refused to clarify when (or if) Argon will come to Antigravity for other subscription tiers.
For developers accessing Google models via the paid API, the company will be happy to sell you some Argon tokens. The price is temporarily set at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with a 95 percent discount for cached tokens. This deal is only valid until November 30, when the rate will increase to $4 per 1 million inbound tokens and $20 per 1 million outbound tokens. Developers will need to keep this in mind before creating workflows around Google’s new model.
