The recall covers certain 2026 model year Ioniq 9 in Limited, Calligraphy or Calligraphy Design trims. Recall documentation from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that seats can continue to move after coming into contact with a person during power functions such as automatic folding and storage.
During a three-month investigation, Hyundai reportedly identified an issue with the second-row seats’ anti-pinch functionality following five consumer complaints related to the issue, including two reports of minor injuries.
The recall takes the form of an OTA software update that changes the logic that controls occupant detection and seat pinch protection. Hyundai dealers will inspect affected vehicles and install updated Seat Controller software free of charge. Vehicles enrolled in Hyundai’s Bluelink service can also receive the update over the air.
Until repairs are completed, Hyundai has warned owners to use caution when operating the second-row power seat functions. It is specifically recommended to keep children away from the rear seat area while using the power folding feature.
This is the third recall for the Ioniq 9 in the US this year, following previous recalls related to a high-voltage battery bus bar and rear suspension fasteners.
