A man died in a head-on collision on Bundesstraße 96 in Rügen. Another five people were seriously injured in the morning police announced. The accident was caused by the 33-year-old driver of a van who first veered off the road to the right at Rambin and then crashed into oncoming traffic.

There she collided with the car of a 61-year-old. The passenger in this car died at the scene of the accident. The two drivers and three other vehicle occupants between the ages of 5 and 32 were taken to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.

The B96 was completely closed for five hours. The police are now investigating negligent homicide. At the instigation of the public prosecutor, an expert also began work at the scene of the accident in order to reconstruct the exact course of the crash.
