Kia PH brings the EV3 to revolutionize the compact electric crossover market

MAKATI CITY, Philippines – Kia Philippines expanded its local electric lineup with the launch of the EV3 on September 21, pricing the subcompact model at P1.898 million (approximately $30,400) to take direct aim at rival battery-powered options.

The Ayala-backed dealer announced the nameplate in a single GL trim, positioned below the larger EV5 and EV9 flagship models. First-time buyers receive a promotional reduction of 30,000 pesos along with a complimentary home wall charger and five years of free scheduled maintenance.

Built on a dedicated 400-volt configuration of the Electric-Global modular platform, the EV3 employs nickel-manganese-cobalt chemistry. In the Philippine market, it uses a 58.3 kilowatt-hour battery that delivers up to 511 kilometers of driving distance based on NEDC testing, which translates to approximately 430 kilometers on the WLTP cycle. Global markets also receive an 81.4 kWh long-range variant capable of traveling up to 605 kilometers between plugs.

Charging via an 11-kilowatt AC connection takes five hours and 20 minutes to go from 10 percent to 80 percent, while DC fast charging hits that benchmark in 29 minutes. Integrated bi-directional vehicle-to-load capability allows the high-voltage system to power external appliances and electronics.

Propulsion flows exclusively to the front axle via a permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces 204 horsepower and 283 newton-meters of tractive force, producing 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.5 seconds and a governed top speed of 170 km/h.

Under the bonnet is a secondary, weather-sealed 25-litre compartment designed for charging cables, which complements the 460-litre rear compartment which expands to 1,251-litres once the rear bench is folded. In terms of dimensions, the sports utility vehicle has a total length of 4,300 millimeters, a width of 1,850 millimeters and a height of 1,560 millimeters, resting on a wheelbase of 2,680 millimeters and an unladen mass of approximately 1,800 kilograms.

The interior accommodation seats five passengers in two rows, using a flat floor that dispenses with a central transmission tunnel. Between the front cubes is an extendable sliding console table designed for parked working or dining, surrounded by upholstery made largely from recycled PET plastics and biopolyurethanes. The driver is faced with a panoramic layout that spans nearly 30 inches across three segments: a 12.3-inch gauge cluster, a 5.3-inch climate interface, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen that supports wireless smartphone syncing.

Aesthetically, the vehicle mimics the upright silhouette of its stablemates. Features include a refreshed digital tiger face grille flanked by distinctive vertical lighting, flush pop-up handles, 17-inch alloy wheels and a roof-integrated luggage rack.

Industry observers point out that the model occupies a fierce niche, competing directly against China’s BYD Atto 3 while also undercutting incoming Japanese contenders like Suzuki’s e Vitara. Kia is also heavily reliant on accelerating the rollout of ACMobility’s domestic charging infrastructure to reassure potential adopters.
