The new Origin is powered by a 140 kW electric motor and a 58 kWh LFP battery, with a claimed WLTP range of up to 273 miles. It reportedly reaches 0 to 62 mph in 8.6 seconds and supports DC charging up to 105 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in 26 minutes. The same powertrain is also available with the V1 and V2 trim levels. As standard, the Origin comes equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument display and a 15-inch infotainment screen. The updated Tavascan also gets an Android-based infotainment system and a redesigned steering wheel with physical buttons.

Cupra has also added new technology and equipment across its lineup, with availability depending on trim level. For example, V1, V2 and above models get a mobile device key, which allows drivers to unlock and start the car using a smartphone, as well as vehicle charging functionality to power external devices. V2 and above models also feature a 12-speaker Sennheiser Contrabass audio system, while the VZ and VZ Extreme get ‘Launch Control’ functionality.

Existing versions with a 77 kWh battery remain available, with outputs of 210 kW for the rear-wheel drive model and 250 kW for the all-wheel drive VZ. Prices for certain versions have dropped: the V1 with 77kWh battery now starts at £45,750, a reduction of £1,600. Meanwhile, the VZ starts at £54,930 (£1,060 less); the VZ Extreme starts at £59,830 (£1,005 less).

The UK introduction of the new Origin version follows a wider European update to the Cupra line-up, first announced in March. As electrive reported at the time, the 58 kWh LFP battery and 140 kW motor were added to the European lineup along with a larger digital cockpit, Android-based infotainment, and the digital key and V2L capabilities described above.

The new UK starting price of £39,995 compares to list prices of €39,990 in the Netherlands and €49,900 in Germany, although equipment, pricing and purchase incentives vary by market.
