According to Plugit, the Volvo FH Aero Electric was charged in Kotka both through the Volvo Open Charge service and directly through Plugit, and both methods worked perfectly, the operator confirmed. Plugit currently offers MCS public charging options in two locations in Finland: Kotka and Lieto. The company operates around 350 public charging points, nine of which are designed for heavy electric trucks.
In the future, Plugit intends to focus more on electric truck charging infrastructure in Finland and Sweden, with more MCS chargers to follow. Janne Silvonen, product manager for electric trucks at Volvo, commented: “Finland’s first public MCS charging session is a significant step towards the electrification of heavy goods transport in Finland. A long operating range and fast MCS charging make electric trucks a viable option even for longer transport trips. Meanwhile, Volvo Open Charge makes charging planning and payment easier, streamlining the use of electric trucks in daily transport operations.”
Plugit is a partner of the Volvo Open Charge service in Finland. The charging service, part of the Volvo Connect fleet management system, allows logistics companies to search for suitable charging stations for heavy vehicles, view details about these stations and plan charging as part of their daily operations. The charging process can also be paid directly in the associated app.
To accelerate the launch, Plugit has partnered with Finnish company Kempower. The hardware specialist supplies turnkey charging solutions as part of an agreement reached at the end of January 2026, which Plugit will use to build its own charging parks and serve external customers. “The partnership will enable the launch of a series of charging points for passenger cars and trucks in the coming years,” both parties announced earlier this year. In parallel, Kempower and Plugit also plan to collaborate on research and development projects, focusing on smart reservation systems, energy management, guidance systems for trucks and pilot projects for charging hardware.
The MCS truck charging station in Kotka is also based on Kempower technology. For this product, Kempower combines up to two 600 kW power units, which can provide a total power of 1.2 megawatts, with charging columns of the Kempower Mega Satellite type. Kempower has been accepting orders for this megawatt charging system for two and a half years. The charging station can be equipped with one MCS connector of up to 1.2 MW or with up to two CCS connectors of up to 560 kW each. Initial sites in Norway, Denmark and Sweden are already using the system with MCS connectors in warehouse applications.
