Survey among companies: Around a third of Berlin companies use AI
A third of the companies in Berlin According to a survey, (34 percent) uses AI technologies. This is more than the national average of 27 percent, as shown by the new so-called company panel for Berlin. Accordingly, 10 percent of the Berlin companies surveyed plan to also use AI in the future.
There are therefore big differences in the use of AI between industries. According to the company panel, 59 percent of Berlin companies use artificial intelligence in the area of information and communication. AI is rarely used in restaurants and accommodation businesses as well as in the construction industry.
Another striking feature: the larger companies are, the more likely they are to use AI. While 60 percent of companies with more than 100 employees use artificial intelligence, the figure is only 29 percent for companies with fewer than 10 employees.
Senator Kiziltepe: Anyone who ignores AI will be left behind
“The rapidly increasing use of artificial intelligence shows how quickly the world of work is changing,” said Berlin’s Labor Senator Cansel Kiziltepe (SPD) about the figures. “In the future, the focus will no longer be on the question of whether AI will be used, but rather how it can be meaningfully integrated into work processes.” The point is to see AI not as a threat, but as a tool that can lead to greater efficiency and innovation. “Companies that don’t deal with AI risk being left behind,” said Kiziltepe.
The company panel is a Germany-wide employer survey that was carried out for the 30th time in Berlin in 2025. The responsible Senate administration works together with the Institute for Labor Market and Occupational Research (IAB). The Berlin data is based on a survey of 985 Berlin companies with at least one employee subject to social insurance contributions and is, according to the information, representative of the approximately 97,000 Berlin companies with at least one employee subject to social insurance contributions.
