BYD announced that its new flagship electric sedan will launch next month with more than 1,000 km (621 miles) of range on a single charge. Pre-orders opened last month, starting at around $37,000.
BYD to launch Great Han EV on October 13
The Great Han, or Da Han as it is called in China, is BYD’s first D-segment flagship sedan in the Dynasty family.
We got a sneak peek of the new full-size sedan in June after it was revealed in the batch of new energy vehicles approved for sale by China’s MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology).
Lu Tian, general manager of BYD’s Dynasty series, confirmed that the Great Han will be launched on October 13 and will offer a CLTC driving range of up to 1,008 km (626 miles).
BYD opened pre-orders for the new Great Han at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21, starting at just 249,900 yuan, or about $37,200.
The flagship sedan is available in three variants with single-wheel drive and all-wheel drive engines. Two rear-wheel drive (RWD) options are available: Premium and Flagship, starting at 249,900 yuan ($37,200) and 269,900 yuan ($40,200).
Both use a single 370 kW (496 hp) motor and a 102,326 kWh battery, providing a CLTC driving range of up to 1,008 km (626 miles).
The AWD variant adds a front electric motor for a combined output of 570 kW (764 hp). Although it uses the same battery pack as the RWD variants, the AWD version has a CLTC range of 880 km (546 miles).
All variants of the Great Han are equipped with BYD’s Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging technology. The configuration allows you to recharge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes using 1,500 kW technology. A full recharge (10% to 97%) takes only 9 minutes.
Measuring 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,510 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm, BYD’s flagship sedan is larger than the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air. It is closer in size to the long-wheelbase Mercedes S-Class.
Like the flagship Great Tang SUV, BYD said the sedan comes standard with premium features, including its DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension system, rear-wheel steering and zero-gravity front seats.
All Great Han variants also come with BYD’s God’s Eye B intelligent driving system, which offers ADAS features such as Autopilot navigation and remote parking.
The new flagship sedan is part of BYD’s broader push into high-end segments following the Great Tang SUV and several new vehicles under its premium Denza brand.
