AfD ban proceedings: What Hape Kerkeling should do against the AfD

According to information from ZEIT, the actor Hape Kerkeling is being heard as an expert in an AfD ban procedure. The Left Party invited him to the first public hearing about a partial ban against the AfD in Thuringia. Five years ago, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, along with the Thuringian AfD regional association, classified part of the AfD as definitely right-wing extremist for the first time. A report by the Society for Civil Rights recently brought a ban on the entire AfD back into discussion. Surprisingly, the CSU parliamentary group has also considered a partial ban on the AfD in Thuringia. The CSU had long spoken out against party bans. In the meantime, party leader and Prime Minister Markus Söder has rowed back: The CSU does not want any ban proceedings against the AfD. What is the change of heart in the CSU and why Hape Kerkeling Fabian Reinbold reports that he has been invited as an expert for a partial ban on the AfD. He is a political correspondent at ZEIT.

These proposals are met with resistance from the unions and the VW works council. IG Metall is organizing demonstrations in front of the VW plant in Emden and in front of the VW supervisory board meeting, the works council speaks of a loss of trust among the workforce and even gives the CEO an “ultimatum”. What’s next with VW’s savings plans? And where is the power struggle between VW boss Blume and the unions heading? Max Hägler from the economics department at ZEIT provides answers to these questions.
