Bomb explosions in Damascus: Syria reports arrests after attacks during Macron’s visit
Arrests have been made in connection with the bombings during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Syria. “The cell responsible for the terrorist bombings two days ago Damascus “The people who targeted us are now in our custody,” Syrian Interior Minister Anas Chattab wrote on the online service X.
“Once the investigation is complete, we will disclose to the public the identities of the members of this cell, their roles and all their affiliations and connections,” he added. The Interior Ministry later said the cell was captured after “a series of simultaneous raids carried out at various locations of the suspects in Damascus and its surrounding areas.”
Previous investigations indicated a connection between the perpetrators and the terrorist organization IS, the Reuters news agency reported, citing a security official.
Two explosions shook the center of the Syrian capital on Tuesday, near the hotel where Macron was staying. Shortly before, the French President had left the hotel. One person was killed and 36 others were injured in the attacks.
