Police in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, have shared an unusual incident. On Instagram, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department posted a photo of a vehicle not approved for use on public roads and commented: “Well, this was certainly the first time… Our [officers] “I ran into a pretty serious situation this weekend when they stopped two gentlemen traveling down S. Tryon Street on a couch… Yes, a real couch.”
Even the officers were taken aback. Two people had apparently mounted a loveseat on top of two electric scooters to create a four-wheeled contraption. How did you manage to balance and direct it? Probably only by precise and synchronized steering while in motion. The fact that it attracted the attention of the police suggests that it had at least some aptitude for limited circulation.
“While we appreciate creativity, we have to remind everyone: no matter what you’re ‘driving’ (using that term very loosely), think about safety first.” police wrote in their Instagram post. They continued: “Ask yourself: Should this be on a road… with real cars… the sheer surprise of seeing this on the road will make other drivers lose concentration and drive unsafely? If the answer feels even slightly like ‘yes,’ maybe reconsider the trip. As a general rule, moving furniture displays are probably best left to IKEA.”
