The Republic of Moldova is a landlocked country covering around 33,846 square kilometers and a population of almost 3 million. The government of this small republic has now published a document to promote electromobility in Moldova. Includes specifications for the national charging network, financing mechanisms and objectives.
One of the most important points refers to the expansion of charging infrastructure. The number of public charging points will increase from around 250 units (as of 2025) to at least 600 in 2030. At least 30 percent of the new charging stations will be built outside the capital Chisinau.
Furthermore, the roadmap stipulates that by 2030, battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids should account for at least 15 percent of the national vehicle fleet. Similarly, CO₂ emissions from road traffic should decrease by at least 15 percent (compared to 2025). To achieve this, the government aims to attract investors and create an environment to develop services for electric vehicles and train specialists.
“We are aware that the Republic of Moldova is part of the European transport network TEN-T. In this context, we will introduce a legal framework based on this plan, together with an implementation program,” said Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.
