Volkswagen, like almost all foreign brands, has had difficulties in China in recent years. The entire German auto industry is basically in crisis because its source of income in China has changed and it now prefers to buy cool new electric vehicles from Chinese companies.
Well, Volkswagen decided to partner with the young Chinese star XPENG to design and develop electric vehicles that would be more attractive and competitive in the Chinese market, and one of those electric vehicles is now hitting the market and it looks cool and competitive!
The new ID. Unyx 09 has a range of 755 km (469 miles) according to the CLTC rating system, and ranges from 179,900 yuan ($26,939) for the Ultra version to 249,900 yuan ($37,421) for the Max version (and between them is the Flagship version for 219,900 yuan / $32,929). You can get it as a single-motor sedan or a dual-motor sedan, and the model falls into the midsize or large sedan class, depending on who you ask.
“The front fascia of the ID. Unyx 09 features a closed grille, slim headlights and the iconic Volkswagen logo. High-tech lighting features include DLP high-definition matrix projection headlights and crystal laser-etched interactive LED units, which can project lane guide light mats and vehicle width markers to improve nighttime safety.” CarNewsChina actions.
Inside, key cabin features include:
- A two-spoke multifunction steering wheel.
- A dedicated instrument display and a square floating central touchscreen powered by an AI assistant.
- An 85-inch AR-HUD (augmented reality Head-Up Display).
- A center console equipped with wireless charging and hidden cup holders.
The vehicle is powered by the large-model VLA intelligent driving assistance system, which supports advanced functions such as personalized parking, remote parking and reversing with tracking.” That VLA (Vision-Language-Action) system is courtesy of XPENG.
The car also features a 91,963 kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, 5C ultra-fast charging and a dual-chamber air suspension system.
What do you think? Can it sell well in China? Can it help boost Volkswagen’s revival in the world’s largest car market? And by the way, will we be able to get that car somewhere outside of China at some point?
