Xiaomi Auto has unveiled its new Sky Nomad series in China, marking the company’s first entry into the extended range electric vehicle (EREV) segment. Previously, its range consisted solely of the all-electric SU7 sedan and the YU7 SUV.
At launch, the new series includes the five-seat N70 Pro and N70 Max models, as well as the seven-seat N90 Max. There is also a five-seat Explorer version of the N90 Max, which features an electrically retractable roof for camping applications. Pricing starts at 209,900 yuan (~€27,600) for the N70 Pro. The N70 Max starts at 239,900 yuan (~€31,500), the N90 Max at 269,900 yuan (~€35,400) and the Explorer version at 299,900 yuan (~€39,400). Notably, the N70 Max is priced below the previously announced pre-order figure.
The N70 is positioned as a medium to large five-seater SUV and measures 4.96 meters in length. The base N70 Pro has front-wheel drive and a 210 kW electric motor. Its 52 kWh LFP battery is said to offer a CLTC electric range of 351 km. With the range extender, Xiaomi claims to have a total range of up to 1,351 km.
The N70 Max has all-wheel drive with two electric motors and a system power of 310 kW. Its 76 kWh battery, which uses ternary cell chemistry, is said to offer up to 505 km of CLTC electric range, with a combined range of 1,461 km. According to Xiaomi, up to 310 km of autonomy can be recovered in 15 minutes.
The larger N90 Max measures 5.29 meters and offers seven seats in a 2+2+3 configuration. It also uses a 76 kWh battery and a 310 kW all-wheel drive system. The range of the electric CLTC is stated at 464 km, with a combined range of up to 1,705 km.
Sky Nomad presents batteries of up to 76 kWh
The Explorer version, on the other hand, has five seats and an electric lifting roof integrated from the factory. The rear seats can be folded down to convert them into a sleeping area, and Xiaomi also highlights features such as underfloor heating. The electric range is 462 km, with a combined range of 1,688 km.
All variants use a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine as a range extender. According to Xiaomi, the battery of each model can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in about 18 minutes.
For the new series, Xiaomi has also announced the so-called Dragonscale battery. Developed in collaboration with CALB and Sunwoda, it will be used in the N70 and N90 models. Xiaomi highlights features such as its own cloud-based battery management system, additional high-voltage protection mechanisms, and improved thermal safety.
The manufacturer also ties the battery to a comprehensive safety warranty. For non-commercial vehicles, Xiaomi promises first owners lifetime protection against spontaneous combustion due to quality defects, as well as against battery fires after collisions or underbody damage. In case of spontaneous combustion caused by a quality defect, Xiaomi says it will even provide a replacement vehicle with equivalent specifications.
Xiaomi also prioritizes advanced driver assistance and infotainment as standard equipment. All Sky Nomad models feature Xiaomi HAD based on Nvidia Drive Thor with 700 TOPS of computing power. The N70 Pro and N70 Max each have one LiDAR sensor, while the N90 Max and Explorer have two. Additional features include 4D millimeter wave radar and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-based HyperOS.
The new series is also important for Xiaomi’s delivery goals. The company aims to deliver a total of 550,000 vehicles in 2026. In the first seven months, 216,322 cars were delivered, representing a year-on-year increase of 14.8 percent. The company’s CEO Lei Jun also stated that Xiaomi Auto has delivered a cumulative total of more than 800,000 vehicles.
