The BYD Q3 battery electric semi-trailer shown here marked a major production milestone this week, becoming the 150,000th new energy commercial vehicle to roll off the assembly line at BYD’s truck plant in Huai’an, Jiangsu province.
BYD, a global leader in electric vehicles, has spent years growing its passenger car and battery businesses, and is now looking to put that growth mindset to work in the commercial vehicle space as well. BYD sold 6,848 NEV trucks in September alone, a year-on-year increase of 113.33%. That puts the delivery count at 53,032 units for the first 9 months of 2026, a figure that CNEVOpost reports an increase of 28.46% compared to 2025.
The Q3 itself combines 600 kWh of the company’s well-known blade-style lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs with a dual 600 kW (~800 hp) motor, which is supposedly good enough to haul 108,000 pounds. of gross combined vehicle weight over 325 km (~200 miles) from where it started on a single charge.
To get the big Q3 back on the road quickly, BYD incorporated support for dual-gun DC fast charging, claiming the ability to go from a 20% to 80% charge state in just 30 minutes.
