Crime: Hostage name in Berlin supermarket – police in large-scale operation

A large-scale operation is underway in a supermarket in Berlin-Marienfelde due to a hostage situation police. Shortly after 10 p.m. on Friday, a man took control of a woman and threatened her, the police said. “It is currently the case that he is still in the market and we are now here with our forces and the operation is currently ongoing,” said police spokesman Stefan Petersen-Schümann to the German Press Agency early Saturday morning.
The police are in contact with the man. The background to the crime is not yet known. “The operation here is still ongoing, so we can’t say more at the moment,” said Petersen-Schümann. The place is cordoned off.
The supermarket is located on Hildburghauser Straße. Marienfelde is located in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district on the southern edge of Berlin.
