Weather: The weekend will be summery – risk of forest fires high

In Baden-Württemberg it’s summer like in a picture book at the weekend. But that also means: Anyone who is outdoors should avoid the sun, drink enough and be particularly careful in view of the risk of forest fires. The German Weather Service (DWD) expects increasing heat stress in the coming days, especially in the Rhine Valley.

It should be sunny on Saturday, later a few cumulus clouds could form over the mountains. According to the forecast, rain is not in sight anywhere in the country. The maximum values are between 28 degrees in the Swabian Alb and up to 35 degrees Rhine. It is said that there will be a weak to moderate north-easterly wind.

The risk of forest fires increases significantly

The risk of forest fires in the southwest continues to increase over the weekend. Level 4 is widely expected on Saturday, and level 5 is also expected on Sunday, depending on the region. The DWD’s forest fire danger index ranges from level 1 (very low danger) to level 5 (very high danger). The evaluation includes, among other things, temperature, humidity, wind and precipitation.

Forest visitors should therefore be particularly careful. There is a smoking ban there in summer. Grilling is generally only permitted in designated areas – and even there, in some cases no longer: For example, in many cities and districts, grilling is currently not permitted at fixed barbecue areas. A hot catalytic converter in a car can also cause a fire.

Weather still midsummer

On Sunday there should be plenty of sunshine again, along with a few veils and cumulus clouds. The maximum temperatures should be around 29 degrees in Upper Swabia and the mountains, and up to 35 degrees on the Rhine. On Monday night it will cool down to 19 to 11 degrees. According to the DWD, the summer weather continues at the beginning of the week – with lots of sun and highs between 30 degrees even in the higher mountains and up to 37 degrees on the Rhine.
