The CSU politician is one of ten new city councilors in Wolfratshausen. She says her party asked citizens during the election campaign instead of setting its own issues.

Wolfratshausen – Ten new city councilors were recently sworn in in Wolfratshausen. We introduce the newcomers in no particular order. We sent all newly elected councilors the same list of questions – and gave them the same space to answer. Today: Melanie Penzkofer, CSU.

Ms. Penzkofer, which two issues in the city are particularly important to you?

As the CSU Wolfratshausen, we did not go into the election campaign with a specific topic, but rather asked the citizens of Wolfratshausen. So very grassroots democratic. Some interesting ideas and points have come up here that we would like to take up for our voters. From smaller ideas and wishes to the really big ones, there’s a lot here – for example, more bike racks in the city center would be good – or the parking situation in Farchet and so on. During our time, we will gradually bring these wishes and suggestions to the town hall.

What was your first thought when you were elected?

I found out that I had been elected while driving to meet a senior citizen. I was informed every minute by my Taekwondo trainer and friends. I was very surprised and it took a while to realize it – and I’m still really happy about it.

What small change would have a big impact on citizens?

If I were to name a small change: More bike racks in the city center would make everyday life noticeably easier for many people.

What personal quality will help you in political work?

I look forward to working in this committee and to this responsible task, which I treat with great respect and want to do justice to. Maybe it will help me not to come with ready-made answers straight away, but to listen first.

Who should city politicians listen to more closely – and why?

That’s exactly what we did: listen to the citizens without entering the election campaign with our own issues. I think city politicians should listen even more closely to where the problem really is – with the people in Farchet as well as with the senior citizen in my passenger seat.
