The East Munich Region Choir Association invited people to the summer concert in Zorneding. Rondo Vocale from Vaterstetten set the highlight with an a cappella work that is currently causing a sensation.
Zorneding – Six choirs came to the Martinstadl in Zorneding to listen to each other, show their skills and delight the audience. Despite the summer heat, tempting alternative programs for the solstice and the Football World Cup, the different choirs performed in the packed hall in front of enthusiastic listeners. “A cappella summer cocktail” was the motto of the evening on the program of the East Munich Region Choir Association, expertly put together by Karl “Charly” Altnöder. A diverse program was offered, not just a cappella, but often accompanied by keyboard or piano.
Chorizont made of hair, 10 young women in red and white outfits, accompanied on the keyboard by choir director Klaus Schmidt, brought a lot of momentum to the stage. With sunglasses and perfectly rehearsed choreography to “Made You Look” they flattered themselves into the hearts of the listeners. The audience was infected by the visible joy of singing.
The Erdinger choir Cantilenen with choir director Christine Gampl-Kehrer, who accompanied her 22 women on the piano at times, entertained with humorous songs that all dealt with love in different ways – sometimes tongue-in-cheek, sometimes romantic, sometimes longing. Particularly amusing was the story of the butterfly in love who fell in love with a flower that was ultimately eaten by a donkey. What a tragedy!
The only guest choir came from Irschenberg in the Miesbach district. For three years, Irene Littek has led the Irschenberg choir community, which normally devotes itself to sacred choral literature, but this time performed secular movements. Soft sounds could be heard, some accompanied by the piano. Eric Whitacre’s “Sing Gently” kicked off, followed by three Swedish songs a cappella. As a mixed ensemble, the choir enriched the evening.
Three more mixed choirs performed after the break: the Funchor Vaterstetten, Surprise of Voices from Kirchseeon and Rondo Vocale from Vaterstetten.
The fun choir, made up of 20 women and four men, shone with perfect sound, pop songs performed from memory, carefully rehearsed with choir director Martina Kneißl, and impressed with their high musical level.
As an audience favorite, choir director Pauline Weindorf captured hearts with Surprise Of Voices from Kirchseeon. With so much momentum you could hardly stay seated. Gospel songs like “Amazing Grace”, “Viva La Vida” and “This Little Light Of Mine” carried the message of awakening and hope. The approximately 30 singers were noticeably moved themselves – huge applause was an expression of this.
At the end the mood increased again when Rondo Vocale came on stage. Urska Stampe, who has directed the choir for a short time, gave it a new musical profile. The 40 singers took the audience along with “All You Need Is Love”, “Human Heart” and “Take Me Home”; Things got lively while swaying along to “Happy” by Pharell Williams.
Urska Stampe set the highlight with “Fire” by the Canadian composer Katerina Gimon – a sonically complex a cappella work that demanded rhythmic precision, vocal power and physical effort from the choir and is currently causing a sensation worldwide. Respect for Rondo Vocale and Urska Stampe!
We went home happy and elated, perhaps already looking forward to the next association concert in the summer of 2027.
