Two people died when the roof of a hospital in Ludwigslust near Schwerin caught fire, although significantly fewer people were injured than initially expected. The Ludwigslust-Parchim district said there were two dead and one injured with smoke poisoning.

Early in the morning, the police operations control center initially spoke of 34 injuries. The fact that the numbers differ so much has to do with the initial reports from the fire site to the operations control center. Several dozen people were initially reported there who were to be medically examined and were then classified as uninjured during the course of the investigation, as a police spokeswoman said.

Such figures are always a snapshot at the time of querying by press representatives and could always change.
