Escalation in the Iran War: US military: Two more US soldiers killed in the Iran War

According to the US military, two US soldiers have been killed for the first time since the recent escalation in the Iran war. They died on Friday during an operation in Jordan when US forces and allies were defending themselves against Iranian missile and drone attacks, the responsible regional command Centcom said on the X platform. Another soldier is also still missing.

Four US soldiers were taken to Jordanian hospitals for medical care and have since been released. According to the US military, other soldiers also suffered minor injuries and have already returned to duty.

The officially known number of US soldiers killed in the Iran War rises to 16.

The Iran war has escalated again in recent days with mutual attacks. The US military recently attacked targets in Iran for the seventh night in a row; according to the Iranian Ministry of Health, at least 50 people have died there so far. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed attacks on US facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan in retaliation. Jordan, which hosts a US base, had also reported shelling from Iran in the previous days.

Iran considers the framework agreement to be invalid and is threatening

Iran has now declared that the framework agreement with the USA is no longer valid following the recent escalation. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Modshtaba Khamenei threatened revenge in a statement. Mojataba, who has never appeared publicly before, said: “As the American enemy now seeks warmongering, incurring even greater costs and inflicting even greater disgrace, he should know that the beloved Iranian people and the resistance front have unforgettable lessons in store for him.”

According to a report by the Fars news agency, Deputy Foreign Minister Kasem Gharibabadi said the framework agreement had been suspended. “We are busy defending the country,” the agency quoted the minister as saying in a TV interview. With their “aggressive measures,” the Americans violated their obligations under the declaration of intent. That was the reason why Iran no longer feels bound to the agreement.

The USA and Iran actually agreed on a framework agreement in mid-June that is intended to pave the way for a permanent end to the war. It was agreed to negotiate a final deal within 60 days. It also includes a call for the Strait of Hormuz to be opened. A ceasefire had also been in effect since the beginning of April, although it was broken several times before the latest escalation. Trump declared this ceasefire to be over last week.
