Julian Nagelsmann: DFB terminates Nagelsmann’s contract – Jürgen Klopp should come
After the early World Cup exit, the top bodies of the German Football Association (DFB) decided to terminate the contract with the national coach Julian Nagelsmann to dissolve. The DFB confirmed this in an official statement. Nagelsmann himself asked for the dissolution on Thursday. At the same time, the DFB confirmed that they would “seek a conversation with Jürgen Klopp.” Klopp has already “signaled his fundamental willingness to take on the position.”
Nagelsmann and the DFB team failed on penalties against Paraguay in the round of 16 of the World Cup on Monday. Immediately after leaving, he ruled out resigning. “I’m not one to run away,” he said after the game.
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf thanked Nagelsmann for his “high level of commitment” and his “extraordinary ambition”. Nagelsmann himself is quoted in the message as follows: “I have thought a lot in the past few days since leaving and exchanged ideas with people I knew personally and in the association. The decision was anything but easy for me. My main goal was always the success of the team. After such a bitter disappointment, she deserves the chance to have a new, unburdened start.”
