Kim Jong Un: North Korea’s leader oversees weapons tests on naval destroyers
North Korea’s rulers Kim Jong Un again supervised several weapons tests. According to the state news agency KCNA, Kim took part in tests on Friday to fire cruise missiles and use “electronic warfare means” from aboard the naval destroyer Kang Kon part.
In images from the KCNA news agency, Kim is seen watching the tests from a coastal observation point surrounded by officials. After Friday’s weapons test, Kim ordered the destroyer’s trial phase to be completed and the ship commissioned into Navy service within two months, according to KCNA.
Weapons testing caused global concern
The Kang Kon had tipped into the water and partially capsized in front of Kim’s eyes during her ceremonial launch in May last year. At the time, Kim blamed the accident on “absolute negligence” and “irresponsibility” and ordered those responsible to be held accountable. Just two weeks ago, Kim announced at a ceremony to inaugurate another warship that he wanted to North Korea Equip the Navy with nuclear weapons and build new 10,000-ton warships.
