The parish church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Massenhausen is getting a new bell. Mayor Iyibas warns that such subsidies will no longer be a given in the future.
Neufahrn – The municipality of Neufahrn has to be careful that the municipal budget does not get out of control. That was the unmistakable announcement from Mayor Ozan Iyibas (CSU) in view of the budget approval, with a warning undertone from the district office. When the municipal subsidy for the new church bell in Massenhausen was approved, the mayor also made it clear that the subsidies will no longer be a given in the future.
Benefit concert
The Massenhausen-Giggenhausen choir community invites you to a benefit concert entitled “Time and Eternity” on Sunday, July 19th, from 6 p.m. Under the direction of Alexandra Karl, the ensemble sings in the Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Massenhausen. Admission is free, but guests are asked to donate for the new church bell.
According to the subsidy guidelines of the municipality of Neufahrn, ten percent of the expected costs are contributed to appropriate applications. In the case of the new bell in the parish church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, with an estimated cost of 90,000 euros for the bell and the renewal of the belfry, that is 9,000 euros in funding. This was decided unanimously by the main and finance committee, but not without discussions.
Check applications carefully
The subsidy guidelines contain the addition that the rules for funding only apply to the municipality’s financial ability. “Frugality is the order of the day,” said Ozan Iyibas, emphasizing that every grant application must be examined carefully. In the case of the Massenhausen church bell, he also provided the arguments for approval: “This is not an ordinary project. You get a new church bell maybe every 400 years.” In addition, the church in Massenhausen is a monument that is the town’s landmark.
The members of the Finance Committee saw it similarly. Maximilian Heumann (SPD) only criticized the archdiocese, which did not provide any special funding for the measure. From there, the parish only receives an annual flat rate for maintenance, which you decide how to use. “The archdiocese should also get involved and revise its own guidelines,” said Heumann.
