Anyone who has prepared for a sunny and dry summer weekend will have to grit their teeth – because the DWD is warning of thunderstorms.

Munich – After a mixed summer week with a lot of rain and only a few sunny and dry periods, many people in Bavaria are looking forward to the return of midsummer this weekend. The German Weather Service (DWD) cannot fully confirm this hope. This emerges from the current warning situation report and the weather report from the meteorologists.

Thunderstorms at the weekend in Bavaria: First of all there will be plenty of sun

After all, the thunderstorms don’t last all weekend. At first it will be beautiful in midsummer. “A high centered over the Bay of Biscay and warm air are determining the weather in southern Germany,” explains the DWD in its warning situation report. On Saturday, July 4th, there will be sunshine and maximum temperatures between 22 and 27 degrees in the south of Bavaria, and 21 to 26 degrees in the north. There may be some rain in the eastern low mountain ranges.

The situation will become more mixed on Sunday, July 5th. The meteorologists warn: “On Sunday in the second half of the day, individual strong thunderstorms, including locally heavy rain of around 15 l/sqm in one hour, hail and stormy gusts of up to 70 km/h are likely.” This will probably particularly affect Upper and Lower Bavaria and Franconia. Swabia has the greatest chance of sun.

Showers and thunderstorms also at the start of the week – outlook until mid-July

The start of the new week will also be dominated by showers and thunderstorms, which are not expected to sweep across Bavaria all the time, but will still pass through from time to time. The DWD’s ten-day forecast shows that there will be occasional rain throughout the rest of the week, with temperatures constantly rising again. (Source: DWD), (fhz)
