The Brazilian ex-professional Dante won many major titles with FC Bayern. Now he will receive a special honor as a coach.

Munich – According to information from the FC Bayern Munich Picture-Newspaper to change its coaching structure in the youth department. In the future, ex-professional Dante will not only look after the second team in the Bavarian Regional League. According to the media report, the Brazilian will also take over the U19 team in the UEFA Youth League – something that has never happened before for the German record champions.

This means a clear double burden for the Brazilian. During the week he coaches the U19s in Europe. At the weekend he will be on the sidelines with Bayern II in the Bavarian Regional League. Dante has only been on the sidelines in his new role for six weeks. Last season he was still under contract with the French first division club OGC Nice.

Dante: Champions League victory with FC Bayern

During his playing days, Dante played 86 Bundesliga games for FC Bayern. With Munich he won the German championship four times, the DFB Cup three times and the UEFA Champions League in 2013. Behind the dual role is a structural decision by those responsible at Bayern. Previously, individual players from the U23 were pulled down for the U19 Youth League games.

That should change fundamentally next season. In the future, players from the second team will form the core of the Youth League squad. This will be filled with talent from the U19 Bundesliga. The new U19 coach Leonhard Haas does not have the international experience that Dante brings with him. The Brazilian still has the Youth League ahead of him as a coach – as a player he knew European business at the highest level.

Dante’s preparation has been mixed so far. Bayern II lost all three test matches: 1:4 against Wacker Innsbruck, 0:2 against Legia Warsaw and most recently 0:4 against Stuttgarter Kickers. Despite the results, trust in the new coach is said to be high internally.

There are still two weeks left until the first competitive game. On July 24th, Bayern II will face SC Eltersdorf in the Bavarian Regional League. The UEFA Youth League then starts six weeks later. Play begins between September 8th and 10th. The draw for the U19 European Cup will previously take place on August 27th. (cb)
