In our series “Unforgotten Stars Today” we look at the upcoming 70th birthday of a real pop icon who has been in hiding for many years.
Starnberg – This week, even more fans from the past are likely to hear her songs, because there is a big birthday coming up: On Sunday (July 19th) Juliane Werding turns 70. The singer was once one of the biggest hit stars of all and was an integral part of the huge stages and TV shows like the “ZDF Hit Parade”. Unbelievable but true: she has completely disappeared from the scene since 2010. The public does not know how she is doing, where she lives or how she lives.
She made the big change at the end of the 00s: The then 52-year-old withdrew from the show industry and worked as a naturopath in Starnberg. At the time, she did not rule out a comeback as a singer. “You should never say never,” the singer smiled in 2009 Starnberg Mercury“Once someone has been infected with the Musicus virus, there is no cure.” In 2010 she said that German alternative practitioner magazine: “I can certainly imagine continuing to produce CDs. It’s all a question of timing.”
Juliane Werding turns 70: There was a small sign of life in 2024
But for almost two decades she resisted the temptation to return to Schlager. What’s more, she hasn’t appeared in public at all since she changed jobs. There was only one mini-exception: When the CD compilation “Touching Life” with old songs was released in 2024, she was persuaded to say a greeting that probably actually came from herself.

She wrote about the publication: “Dear ones, I normally don’t like compilations that much and sometimes react a little bitchily to requests. But I really like this compilation because the songs that I worked on with Harald Steinhauer (composer and producer, editor’s note) are really close to my heart. The whole team at Artists & Acts was just great! I’m looking forward to being able to hear the songs all in a row now.” These are the only publicly reported words from Juliane Werding after her withdrawal.
Our editorial team would have loved to know more about Juliane Werding’s new life – and asked her several friendly interview requests. Once, in March 2025, there was a polite but clear rejection: “Thank you for your kind request. Unfortunately, as you already suspected, it remains the case that Ms. Werding no longer wants to give interviews,” said the email response, which was signed “Your JW team”.

A new magazine article was shared there, but it does not contain any further information. “She is a great woman and artist. She is missed so much,” commented one follower. “Juliane was simply unique and great,” another. Another comment says: “Next Sunday this great artist will be 70. Even if she no longer releases music, I play her CDs with great regularity.”
Schlager legend Juliane Werding: The last album was released in 2008
Werding was born on July 19, 1956 in Essen. During her breakthrough, she still attended a convent school. She left school in 1973 after completing secondary school, attended a business school and later completed training in the PR sector. In addition, her musical career was now really taking off. Werding celebrated another success with “If you think, you think, then you just think, you think” from 1975 – a song written by country and pop singer Gunter Gabriel.

Many more hits followed. Her last studio album “Ruhe vor dem Sturm” was released in 2008. The following year, the mother of two children ended her music career. Another Schlager legend has also lived in seclusion for many years – and gave our editorial team an exclusive update.
