While the AfD Upper Bavaria elected its district executive, 300 people protested in front of the Ritter-Hilprandhof. Some apparently autonomous people got into the building.
Taufkirchen – Inside, the AfD Upper Bavaria elected its new district executive, outside in front of the Ritter-Hilprandhof in Taufkirchen, 300 demonstrators gathered to “stand up for democracy, diversity and peaceful coexistence,” according to a press release from the rally organizers. Among the participants were, in addition to many citizens, representatives of political parties and sports clubs, the VHS, the Catholic parish council as well as Cemal Bozoğlu, spokesman against right-wing extremism for the Greens in the state parliament, and Maria Noichl (SPD), member of the European Parliament. The central message: Exclusion and hate speech have no place in an open society.
“The Bavarian AfD’s plans, which they call ‘homecoming promotion’, are highly alarming,” said SPD parliamentary group leader Naciye Özsu. “Your state goal of expelling millions of people is preparing for violence. Today we stand up for these millions of people! This is our home! We are not leaving.” Taufkirchen is characterized by people with a wide variety of life stories. It is precisely this diversity that makes the community strong.
There was criticism that the AfD was even allowed to meet in the culture and congress center. This cannot be prevented, explains Mayor Sebastian Thoma (CSU). The community tried to prevent it legally years ago – in vain. A regulatory back door was also slammed: The municipality’s idea of making the congress center only available to political local associations has been no longer applicable since the AfD Hachinger Tal local association was founded.
According to the Unterhaching police station, around ten police officers were on duty at the congress center. The counter-demonstration remained peaceful. With one exception: Since the restaurant and toilets were open to the public, some people assigned to the autonomous spectrum got into the building. When asked by the police, they tried to loudly disrupt the AfD event and were led out by the police.
