Victim defended herself: Long prison sentences for attacking an 80-year-old in Hamburg

The regional court Hamburg has sentenced a trio of robbers who brutally attacked an 80-year-old in his home in Hamburg-Eißendorf to long prison terms. The three men were guilty of attempted murder, particularly serious predatory extortion and grievous bodily harm, said presiding judge Matthias Steinmann.

A 45-year-old defendant received a nine-year prison sentence. A 25-year-old should go to prison for seven years and six months, his accomplice of the same age should go to prison for four years and six months. The verdict is not yet final.

One perpetrator is the gardener

The 45-year-old worked as a gardener for the 80-year-old, who unsuspectingly opened the front door for him on August 30, 2025, leaning on his walker. The judge was convinced that the perpetrators beat him to force him to hand over valuables and cash. Ultimately, the defendants tried to murder him.

In their statements in court, the defendants tried to blame others and glossed over their own misconduct, said the presiding judge.
