The state of Hesse has approved the referendum of the «Transport transition Hessen” was rightly rejected around four years ago. This was the verdict of the Hessian State Court in Wiesbaden. The “Verkehrswende Hessen” initiative campaigns for cycling, pedestrians and public transport. The core of the referendum was a new Hessian mobility law, the “Transport Transition Act”.
The then black-green state government rejected the project at the end of September 2022 as “unconstitutional”. The Ministry of Transport explained that the draft goes beyond the country’s legislative competence. Hesse’s highest court has now rejected a complaint against this decision.
About the sponsoring group of “Traffic Transition Hesse» include the “Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrrad-Club Landesverband Hesse” (ADFC), the Hesse regional association of the German Traffic Club (VCD) and the “FUSS – Pedestrian Protection Association and German Foot Traffic Association”.
