Rivian is back with another Halloween update, and once again it’s another classic movie themed one with a new celebrity cameo.
For the past few years, Rivian has released Halloween “costumes” for its cars in October, and this year is no different.
Last year it was Swamp Thing and in 2024 it was Knight Rider and Back to the Future, along with an added spooky theme.
This year we have a theme again, but it’s already pretty spooky: Ghostbusters.
The update adds a number of optional cosmetic changes to the car’s user interface, making the in-car and loading experience more spooky and/or Ghostbusters-themed.
The update includes new light sequences, sounds and a “haunting” voice for Rivian’s voice assistant. There are also a couple of games: a scavenger hunt to find hidden characters in the car’s UI, and a Ghostbusters-themed game you can play on the center screen while the car is parked.
The update also applies to the Rivian mobile and watch app, and the charging experience at Rivian charging stations, through their integrated screens. The mobile app is the way to control the costumes and apply them to the vehicle.
Rivian also created a unique ECTO-R1, dressing up a Rivian R1S as the classic Ectomobile from Ghostbusters.
The original movie car was based on a 1959 Cadillac, with all kinds of movie science stuff strapped to the top. Rivian gave the R1S the same kind of treatment.
The Ecto-R1 appears in a short Halloween ad filmed by Rivian with none other than famous guest Bill Murray. Rivian has had celebrity guests before, using David Hasselhoff for its previous Knight Rider update.
Halloween features come with update 2026.36.0 on R1 and 2026.36.40 on R2. Halloween mode is only active from October 9 to November 2, so get ready to rock it at all your Halloween parties while you can.
